JOINT COMMAND SOUTHEAST CELEBRATES THE 50th ANNIVERSARY izmir, Turkey - NATO Sub-regional Headquarters, Joint Command Southeast (JCSE) will celebrate its 50th Anniversary with a ceremony on 6 September 2002, at Kordon Orduevi. As part of the ceremony, JCSE will hold an exhibition about the headquarters for the general public. The exhibition will be on Kordonboyu Street near Kordon Orduevi, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The celebration activities started with a press conference on 28 March, at Vecihi Akin Garrison in Sirinyer and continued with a series of activities including artwork and composition contests and visits from high schools and universities to the headquarters. JCSE was activated at Sirinyer on 8 September 1952 as Landsoutheast, subordinate to Allied Forces Southern Europe (AFSOUTH) and renamed Joint Command Southeast on l September 1999 as part of the implementation of the new command structure within NATO. As one of the oldest military headquarters in NATO, JCSE successfully contributed to the peace and stability in the region during its fifty year existence. JCSE is commanded by Gen. Oktar Ataman (Turkish Army) with Maj. Gen. Craig D. Hackett (United States Army) as his Deputy and Maj. Gen. Christos Vafiadis (Hellenic Army) as his Chief of Staff. Ten NATO nations including Canada, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States are represented in the Headquarters.
