NATO/PARTNERSHIP FOR PEACE EXERCISE BEGINS IN GEORGIA

Military personnel from six NATO and nine Partner Nations have gathered at Vaziani training area in T’bilisi, Georgia to enhance military interoperability in a Peace Support Operations scenario as part of Exercise Cooperative Best Effort 02 (CBE 02).

CBE 02 is the main annual field training exercise for small units in the Partnership for Peace programme. The “Best Effort” series of exercises are designed to foster understanding and interoperability between NATO and Partner Nations’ military forces. CBE 02 will improve military effectiveness in a variety of Peace Support tasks and lay the foundation for higher-level land exercises.

CBE 02 will be conducted at military camp Vaziani from 17-28 June 2002.

CBE 02 is scheduled by the Commander-in-Chief, Allied Forces Southern Europe (CINCSOUTH), Admiral Gregory G. Johnson, and will be conducted by the Commander, Joint Command Southeast (COMJCSOUTHEAST), General Oktar Ataman, as part of the yearly program of Southern Region training activities conducted in 2002.

A Press Briefing will be held on Saturday, 15 June 2002 at 10 P.M. at Hotel TORI conference room.
