Exercise Cooperative Determination 98 was a NATO/Partnership for Peace (PfP Exercise conducted in Sofia, Bulgaria from 06-13 December 1998.

Personnel from four NATO and nine Partner nations formed a Multinational Brigade headquarters for this Command Post Exercise to train in Peace Support Operations. NATO nations of France, Italy, Turkey and the United States; and Partner nations of Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia*, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, Switzerland, Ukraine and Uzbekistan and the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) participate in this exercise.

The exercises aim? was to develop a common understanding of Peace Support Operations and to enhance military interoperability by training commanders and staffs of NATO and Partner nations in the staff procedures required to conduct multinational peace keeping and humanitarian operations.

The observers made a tour of all exercise facilities and received briefings at the DISTAFF and various multinational brigade response cells.

Commanders and staff evaluated the days operations during the daily hotwashes. The hotwashes provided an excellent platform to review the lessons learned and to plan for better operations for the next day.
