Tamer Akbas, Commander, Joint Command Southeast, hosted distinguished visitors from NATO Southern Region headquarters and NATO nations Turkey, Greece and Hungary in Çorlu today. The distinguished group, including Vice Adm. Luigi Lillo, Commander, Allied Naval Forces South; Lt. Gen. Yildirim Turker, Commander, Turkish 5th Corps, Maj. Gen. Hans J. Merkle and Brig. Gen. Zoltan Szenes from Allied Forces South Europe; Maj. Gen. Vito Carlucci from Joint Command South, Maj. Gen. Zannie O. Smith, Deputh Commander, Joint Command Southeast; Maj. Gen. Georgios Manioudakis, Chief of Staff of Joint Command Southeast, Maj. Gen. Ersel Kayan from Turkey; Brig. Gen. Tigor Nagy from Hungary; and Colonel Fragos from Greece received a briefing on the exercise at the command post site in ÇORLU, a tour at field training site around Derekoy and visited a refugee camp in Kirklareli. During his remarks Gen. Akbas stated that the exercise is the largest NATO exercise conducted this year in Southern Europe and stressed its importance for the lasting peace and the stability of the region.
