EXERCISE CO-OPERATIVE DETERMINATION 1999
NATO and Partner nations will conduct the Partnership for Peace (PfP) Exercise Co-operative Determination 99 (CD99) in Bucharest, Romania from 26 November to 5 December 1999.
Personnel from seven NATO and eleven Partner nations will form the headquarters of a multinational brigade for this computer assisted command post exercise to train in peace support operations, including humanitarian assistance.
Participating NATO nations are: France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Turkey and the United States. The Partner nations involved with CD 99 are: Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (Turkey recognises the Republic of Macedonia with its constitutional name), Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Romania, Slovakia, Switzerland, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
Also, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) will participate in this exercise.
CD 99 aims to develop a common understanding of peace support operations, including humanitarian assistance, and to enhance military interoperability by training commanders and staffs of NATO and Partner nations in the staff procedures required to conduct operations at multinational brigade level.
The exercise is scheduled by Admiral James O. Ellis, Jr. Commander-in-Chief, Allied Forces Southern Europe.
The exercise will be conducted by General Tamer Akbas, Commander, Joint Sub-Regional Command Southeast (COMJCSOUTHEAST) as the coordinating commander and by Lieutenant General Michael C. Short, Commander, Allied Air Forces Southern Europe as the assisting commander.
The exercise co-directors are Brigadier General Petre Botezatu, Chief, Operations Directorate, Romanian General Staff, and Brigadier General Rifki Durusoy, Assistant Chief of Staff, Operations, Plans and Policy, JHQ SOUTHEAST.
