STAFFEX 99 ( Disciplined Warrior 99 ) is part of the LSE annual internal staff training program with the aim to train Headquarters LSE personnel in the operation of a crisis time headquarters using a fictitious scenario.The exercise was held from 1-12 February in Izmir Turkey. LSE employed the Shape Special Exercise Section ( SHOES ) and the NATO Consultation,Command and Control Agency (NC3A) to support the computer assisted exercise. The exercise was conducted in two phases.

PHASE 1

The first few hours of each morning was dedicated to a series of war-fighting seminars given by representatives from SHOES and AFSOUTH. These seminars presented a wealth of information in a professional manner. Seminar topics included: Command Relationships, Joint Logistics Support Center Operations, Battlestaff Operations and Operational Fires.

PHASE 2

Phase 2 took place at LSE's wartime headquarters from 9 to 11 February 1999. The primary exercise driver was a computer assisted exercise provided by NC3A. SHOES supported this part of the exercise by providing the higher headquarters, and the exercise director. The entire staff worked a single shift for each of three days, this allowed for LSE to maximize lessons learned, without two shifts learning different techniques and lessons. The phase concluded on Friday 12 February with a formal after action review conducted at the Gen. Vecihi Akin Garrison.
